Federal Agents Shot At During Enforcement in Chicago: DHS
A man driving a black Jeep fired shots at federal agents who were conducting immigration enforcement in Chicago Saturday, according to a post on X from the Department of Homeland Security.
No injuries were reported in the aftermath of the shots fired and the suspect is still on the loose, according to the post.
DHS says that other people in the area they were responding to, 26th Street and Kedzie Avenue, “threw a paint can and bricks and Border Patrol’s vehicles,” during the incident.
“Over the past two months, we’ve seen an increase in assaults and obstruction targeting federal law enforcement during operations,” DHS said in the post on X. “These confrontations highlight the dangers our agents face daily and the escalating aggression toward law enforcement. The violence must end.”
The incident Saturday is just the latest in a string of clashes between people in Chicago following the deployment of federal agents to enforce immigration laws. Last month, a woman was shot by federal agents after DHS said their vehicles were boxed-in during another incident in Chicago.
Newsweek reached out to the White House and the Chicago Police Department by email for more information Saturday afternoon.
