Thousands of Americans advised to stay inside in Indiana, Arizona
Thousands of people in Indiana and Arizona face potentially unhealthy levels of air pollution early Friday, a live map from AirNow shows.
The map shows a pocket of fine particle (PM2.5) pollution in the “unhealthy” category east of South Bend, encompassing the towns of Elkhart, Dunlap, and Jamestown.
Another pocket of unhealthy air is present in Arizona, covering an area around Payson, as well as a portion of Phoenix.
At these levels, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) advises that sensitive groups avoid long or intense outdoor activities and consider rescheduling moving them indoors.
The EPA also recommends that the remainder of the population reduces long or intense activities, and to take more breaks during outdoor activities.

This is a developing story. More to follow.
