Ukraine Fires US-Supplied ATACMS Missiles on Russia
Ukraine said it had successfully struck targets in Russia using U.S.-supplied ATACMS missiles, ending a months-long absence of the powerful weapon from the battlefield.
In a statement shared on Facebook, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine called it “an iconic event that emphasizes Ukraine’s unwavering devotion to its sovereignty.”
“Despite the ongoing challenges of Russian attacks, Ukrainians remain resilient, demonstrating determination to persistently and systematically defend their homeland,” the statement said.
“The use of long-range impressions, in particular such as ATACMS, will continue.”
The general staff did not say where Ukraine had struck. But the Russian defense ministry said it had repelled four ATACMS missiles over the city of Voronezh on November 18 in a post on Telegram.
“During the anti-missile battle, Russian S-400 surface-to-air systems and Pantsir anti-aircraft missile system shot down all ATACMS missiles,” the ministry said, originally in Russian.
“Falling debris from the destroyed missiles damaged the roofs of the Voronezh Regional Geriatric Centre and an orphanage, as well as one private house. There are no casualties or injured among civilians.”
It said the ATACMS were launched from the Kharkiv region.
