Chiefs Fans Convinced Patrick Mahomes Took Shot at Andy Reid
The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for a massive AFC showdown against the Indianapolis Colts (8-2) on Sunday afternoon and need a victory if they want to keep pace in a crowded playoff race.
Ahead of the showdown, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes gave Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo his flowers. The two have squared off a number of times in the past few years and Anarumo gave Mahomes fits was the defensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals.
“Coach Anarumo is a great defensive coordinator and a great coach…I think what makes him such a great defensive coordinator is he tailors his scheme to the team that he’s playing with. He wants to go with their strengths and getting guys in position to succeed and even from some of the trades they’ve made they’ve adjusted their defense as well,” Mahomes said. “That’s something that makes him a great coach is that he’s not stuck in his ways of how he calls a game.”

Those comments by themselves might not seem like much – just a player praising his opponent’s success. However, his last line has Chiefs fans believing he was taking a shot at his own coaching staff, namely head coach Andy Reid.
“I am old enough to understand vocal subtext. Patrick just said the quiet part out loud,” one Chiefs fan said.
“You cannot convince me this isn’t a shot at the Chiefs coaching staff,” suggested another Chiefs fan before a third added, “Andy sent a shot at him about changing out of run plays he’s sending them right back.”
The Chiefs and Colts kick off at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
