Report: Knicks Emerge as Contender to Make $175.3 Million Blockbuster Trade
Coming into the 2025-26 NBA season, the New York Knicks were expected to be the favorite to win the Eastern Conference. With the Indiana Pacers and Boston Celtics both down due to injuries to Tyrese Haliburton and Jayson Tatum, the Knicks appeared to be the next team up.
So far, things have not gone quite that way.
While the Knicks are a good basketball team, they haven’t been able to gel completely. At the time of this writing, New York holds a 9-6 record, which places them at No. 5 in the Eastern Conference.

Ahead of the NBA trade deadline this year, the Knicks are going to be an intriguing team to watch. It would not be surprising to see New York open to making a big trade if it helps the team compete for a championship.

Keeping that in mind, one intriguing superstar name to keep an eye on for the Knicks is Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis.
According to a report from NBA insider Ian Begley of SNY, New York is a team to watch when it comes to Davis. If the price is right, the Knicks might just jump at pulling off a blockbuster deal with the Mavericks.
“I’m sure the Knicks would at least check in with Dallas if/when Anthony Davis becomes available,” Begley wrote. “You may scoff at the idea, but the Knicks want to win a title this season. If Dallas is offering Davis at a below-market cost, I’m sure the Knicks will at least give the move some thought.”
Davis would be a massive pickup for New York. Even if the Knicks had to move off of a piece like Karl-Anthony Towns, it would make sense from a fit perspective alongside of star point guard Jalen Brunson.
Throughout the season thus far in Dallas, Davis has dealt with some injury issues. He has played in just five games, averaging 20.8 points per game to go along with 10.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.2 blocks. When healthy, he’s capable of much bigger production.

Last season split between the Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers, Davis played in 51 total games. He produced 24.7 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.2 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game, while shooting 51.6 percent from the floor and 28.2 percent from three-point range.
This is something to keep an eye on in the coming weeks and months. Davis could be a name that the Knicks consider pursuing if Dallas does make him available on the market.
