Northeast
The Old Farmer’s Almanac expects December in the Northeast is to be cold and snowy. From December 1–17, there will be snowy periods and temperatures will get very cold. From December 18–21, it should be sunny but still cold. From December 22–31, snow showers are expected and it will stay very cold, the publication said.
Atlantic Corridor
From December 1–3, expect showers with mild temperatures. From December 4–12, there will be snow showers in the north while the south stays sunny, and temperatures will turn colder, according to the almanac.
From December 13–15, conditions should be sunny and cold. Between December 16–29, the forecast calls for a mix of rain and snow showers at first, then sunnier weather, with temperatures turning very cold. The month ends with snowy, cold conditions on December 30–31, it predicts.
Appalachians
December begins warm in this forecast area. From December 1–3, expect warm weather with showers. From December 4–17, snow showers are expected in the north while the south stays sunny, and temperatures overall will be colder, according to the almanac.

From December 13–20, rainy periods are forecast, some of them heavy, and temperatures will turn warm. From December 21–24, it stays rainy in the north but sunny in the south, with mild temperatures. The month ends from December 25–31 with sunny and warm weather, the forecast says.
Pacific Southwest
From December 1–13, conditions should be sunny, starting cool and then turning warmer. From December 14–16, there may be a few showers in the north while the south stays sunny, and temperatures remain warm.

Tim Goodwin, senior editor of The Old Farmer’s Almanac, told Newsweek regarding the publication’s Christmas forecast: “With the holiday season approaching, we know that people across the country are making plans to visit family and friends and how the weather will impact travel is always at the top of mind.
“For those in the Northeast, Upper Midwest, and much of Alaska, predicted snow showers leading up to the holiday—and possibly beyond—could impact conditions, so make sure to check the forecast closer to traveling. The Lower Lakes will see snowy periods in the days prior to Christmas and through the new year, and those on the roads should plan for more time to get to their festivities. Snowy conditions from Christmas Eve on could make for tricky travel in the Appalachians. Snow is expected in the eastern Ohio Valley, while the High Plains and Intermountain could see rain or snow showers.
“Those in the Atlantic Corridor should not see any delays on the way to celebrations, but folks staying through the end of the year could be impacted by snow on their return trip home. Travelers in the Deep South, northern Pacific Northwest, and eastern Hawaii could see rain and the Pacific Southwest forecast calls for a few showers after the holiday so make sure to prepare for wet roads.”
