A Retail Phenomenon

Candle Day has evolved into one of Bath & Body Works’ largest annual moments, driving millions to stores, the website and the app.

The brand shared a striking statistic from 2024: if each three-wick candle sold during last year’s event were lined up end-to-end, they would stretch about 1,700 miles—roughly the distance from Florida’s southern tip to Portland, Maine.

“Candle Day is a cherished tradition that our customers countdown to every year,” said Betsy Schumacher, chief merchandising officer at Bath & Body Works, in a statement. “It’s the ultimate Bath & Body Works shopping event—a moment when we deliver what we do best: high-quality three-wick candles, crafted with innovation and artistry, alongside new fragrances and exclusive surprises designed to give consumers exactly what they desire.”

The annual candle day comes as new data from Adobe revealed that consumer’s use of buy now, pay later (BNPL) options have boosted holiday spending.

BNPL usage reached a record high, rising 4.2 percent year over year and driving over $1 billion in online spending on Cyber Monday. Adobe expects total BNPL spend to climb to $20.2 billion by the end of this year’s holiday shopping season, marking an 11 percent increase over 2024.
