The Dallas Cowboys are set to face off against the Detroit Lions on Thursday night in a matchup that will likely have major ramifications on the NFC playoff picture. Going into the game, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott made it incredibly clear that he plans on having a big game to help continue his team’s winning ways.
There is certainly plenty for Prescott to be confident about going into the matchup. Thus far this season, the Cowboys have the league’s best offense in terms of yards per game and rank behind just the Indianapolis Colts in points per game.
The Cowboys now appear to be one of the most dangerous teams in the NFC after rattling off back-to-back wins over both parties in last year’s Super Bowl, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs. As a result, Prescott is heading into the game incredibly confident that he will be able to put up yards through the air at will against the Lions.

Prior to Thursday’s game, Prescott spoke with NFL Network reporter Jane Slater. Upon being asked by Slater about his last game in Ford Field, where he threw for 444 yards and three touchdowns, Prescott boldly declared that he plans to again “light up” the Lions’ defense.
“That we lit them up,” said Prescott, referring to their past 2019 matchup. “Lot of passing yards. About to do it again.”

While Prescott’s last trip to Ford Field was a successful one, his most recent game against the Lions was anything but. Detroit gave Dallas their most embarrassing defeat in recent memory in their matchup last year, going into AT&T Stadium and coming away with a 47-9 win.
In that game, Prescott threw for 178 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. So clearly, Prescott may have a chip on his shoulder for Thursday’s game due to how poorly his last game against the Lions went.
More importantly, the Cowboys certainly need a win to keep pace in the NFC playoff picture. Currently, they trail the Philadelphia Eagles by 1.5 games atop the NFC East and sit over two games back in the NFC Wild Card race.
With only five more games left in their season, Dallas cannot afford too many more losses if they want to sneak into the playoffs. So Cowboys fans are certainly hoping that Prescott delivers on his pregame promise to put on a show in Ford Field.
