Netflix Makes Major Announcement About Top Drama Series
“The Diplomat” is officially returning for more politically charged drama.
As confirmed by Netflix in May 2025, “The Diplomat” Season 4 will pick up straight after last season’s shocking finale. Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell return as Kate and Hal Wyler, while Allison Janney, Bradley Whitford (pictured below), and Nana Mensah have been promoted to series regulars.
“I’m so excited about Season 4,” Deborah Cahn, the showrunner and executive producer, tells Tudum. “It’s going to be a lot of fun. We get to the end of a season and I always think, ‘Well, there’s no way that we can do this again.’ And then we dig back into it, and it’s like, ‘Oh my God, we have to keep going.’ ”

‘The Diplomat’ Season 4 Release Date
Netflix has not yet announced a release date for “The Diplomat Season 4.” However, it entered production in Fall 2025, and will likely be released late 2026.
‘The Diplomat’ Season 4 Story
In “The Diplomat Season 4,” the story continues for Ambassador Kate Wyler, and her husband Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell). There’s also more focus on President Grace Penn and first husband Todd Penn, played by Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford respectively.
“Working with Allison and Brad, watching them together again, and the off-the-charts foursome that is them with Keri and Rufus … It’s an insane bag of candy,” says Cahn. “Our expectations were high, and it blew right past them.”
Netflix also confirms Nana Mensah, who plays White House Chief of Staff Billie Appiah, has been promoted to a series regular for the fourth season.
‘The Diplomat’ Season 4 Episodes
There will likely be eight episodes in “The Diplomat Season 4,” just as there were in the previous season. Each episode tends to last around 50 minutes.
‘The Diplomat’ Season 4 Where to Watch
“The Diplomat Season 4” will air exclusively on Netflix. All three previous seasons are available to watch now.
What Happened in ‘The Diplomat’ Season 3?
Grace Penn replaced the deceased President (Michael McKean), while Kate got a powerful new role that comes with its own particular set of challenges.
“[Fans] should be worried. There’s plenty to worry about,” says Cahn. “It can be pretty chilling when you see who takes power and get the sense that they may be horrifically misusing it.”
