LeBron James’ Knicks Chances Get Honest Take From Rich Paul

The New York Knicks were once recognized as free agency suitors for LeBron James.
Ultimately, James ended up out west, playing for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Currently, LeBron James is playing on the final year of his contract with the Lakers, and his future is in question. He could hang it up and retire at 41, or sign a short-term deal to play for another contender if the Lakers no longer see a fit.
Do the New York Knicks make sense? Recently, LeBron’s super-agent, Rich Paul, addressed the idea of LeBron linking up with the Knicks.
Keep Wishing, Knicks?
During an on-record conversation with Max Kellerman, Paul addressed the chances of LeBron James leaving the Lakers as early as this season.
Paul was straightforward, making it clear that LeBron James will finish out the 2025-2026 NBA season with the Lakers. Beyond that? Paul had an interesting answer to LeBron potentially finishing with the Knicks.
“That’s wishful thinking,” Paul told Kellerman, who made the suggestion.
“Does LeBron make the Knicks better? Yes, but 29 other teams would say the same thing,” the agent added.
At 41, LeBron James is still working his way to one-hundred percent as he’s dealt with multiple setbacks to begin the 2025-2026 season. After making his season debut in late November, LeBron has managed to play in seven games so far.
At times, the star forward has struggled to look like the best version of himself, even failing to score 10 points, breaking a historic streak. However, against the Philadelphia 76ers, LeBron turned back the clock and reminded the league that he could still be as dominant as ever.
In seven games, James has produced 16.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 7.6 assists per game.
The Knicks might’ve been top suitors for LeBron James years ago, but they are currently setting their sights on Giannis Antetokounmpo, who could be on the move for the first time in his career.
As for LeBron, he seems likely to continue building with Luka Doncic on the Lakers, as the organization searches for its second championship since adding the superstar forward in 2018.
