Ole Miss Nears Critical NCAA Decision Amid College Football Playoff Push
The Ole Miss Rebels notched a dominant victory over the Tulane Green Wave on Saturday, punching their ticket to the second round of the College Football Playoff with a 41-10 final score in Oxford.
As they have been all season, the Rebels were led by star quarterback Trinidad Chambliss. The former Division II quarterback completed 23 of his 29 pass attempts for 282 yards and one touchdown, and rushed for 36 yards and two touchdowns with his legs.
Chambliss and No. 6 seed Ole Miss now turn their attention toward the No. 3 seed Georgia Bulldogs in their upcoming Sugar Bowl matchup. But as the Rebels prepare for this crucial CFP contest, the team is also monitoring an important NCAA decision on the horizon.
Chambliss played three seasons with Division II Ferris State before his arrival in Oxford, but appeared in just two games during his freshman season due to a variety of health issues. Three weeks ago, he applied for a waiver to be granted another season of NCAA eligibility — which would make him eligible to return as Ole Miss’ quarterback in 2026.

During the first half of TNT’s broadcast on Saturday, sideline reporter Katie George said Ole Miss expects the NCAA review process to take one month. Because Chambliss applied for his waiver three weeks ago, the decision should be rapidly approaching as the Rebels prepare to face off against Georgia.
“He said that they filed the waiver three weeks ago,” George said, via On3 Sports. “Ole Miss expects it to take a month before they get an answer.
“Back in 2022 when he was at Ferris State, he did not play in a single game due to chronic tonsillitis, heart palpitations and trouble breathing, so he medically redshirted. After the season he had, proving he’s capable of playing at this level, he wants another year to build on his progress.”

Chambliss has been stellar in his first season at the FBS level. The 23-year-old signal caller has completed 65.5% of his pass attempts for 3,016 yards, 18 touchdowns and three interceptions, in addition to his 470 yards and six touchdowns in the running game.
Ole Miss will matchup against Georgia in a New Year’s Day playoff contest at Caesars Superdome.
