Mike McCarthy Doesn’t Hold Back About Steelers With Playoffs Looming

The Pittsburgh Steelers and future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers are looking like a good bet to win the AFC North division race and get into the NFL playoffs.

Despite some ups and downs this season, the Steelers have come on strong down the stretch. They have won three straight games heading into Week 17 against the Cleveland Browns on the road.

While Pittsburgh has not been a dominant team all season long, there is enough talent on the roster to make a run. With Rodgers leading the way, a Super Bowl is still very much a possibility. However, the Steelers will need to continue playing the way they have over the last few weeks.

Keeping that in mind, one former NFL head coach spoke out with some strong words about his hopes for Pittsburgh this season.

Mike McCarthy, Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys

Former Dallas Cowboys lead man Mike McCarthy, who is a Pittsburgh native, spoke out about his desire to see the Steelers win the Super Bowl this season. Of course, McCarthy was also a head coach with the Green Bay Packers when Rodgers was the franchise quarterback there.

“I’m wishing for a Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl,” McCarthy said. “It would be awesome to see this team go on a run.”

Being from Pittsburgh is a part of McCarthy’s hope for the Steelers, while his relationship with Rodgers almost certainly feeds into his words as well. Either way, he’s all onboard with team Pittsburgh with the playoffs looming.

Ahead of this week’s game against the Browns, the Steelers received some great news. T.J. Watt, the team’s superstar pass rusher, was back on the practice field as he continues recovering from a partially collapsed lung. For Pittsburgh to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender, the Steelers will need a healthy Watt wreaking havoc on opposing quarterbacks.

Unfortunately, there was a bad bit of news from Pittsburgh’s dramatic Week 16 win over the Detroit Lions. DK Metcalf will miss the final two games of the regular season after being suspended due to an altercation with a Lions fan.

Leading up to the playoffs, the Steelers will need to get everyone healthy and back on the field. There is no room for error come playoff time.

That being said, Pittsburgh will kick off against Cleveland on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. ET.
