USC won its regular-season finale 29-10 over UCLA, but brings a depleted receiving corps into the Alamo Bowl, with Makai Lemon and Ja’Kobi Lane opting out to prepare for the NFL draft. The Trojans will also be without defensive lineman Devan Thompson, who entered the portal, and safety Kamari Ramsey, who declared for the draft. Jayden Maiava threw for 3,431 yards with 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions, and King Miller compiled 873 rushing yards and seven scores. Lake McRee is the top remaining target in the passing game with 30 catches, 450 yards, and four touchdowns. Bishop Fitzgerald had five picks in 10 games and is expected to play after missing the last two games with an injury.
TCU lost offensive coordinator Kendal Briles to South Carolina, and quarterback Josh Hoover took his 31 total touchdowns into the transfer portal. Ken Seals will start in Hoover’s place on Tuesday night after going 4-of-6 for 24 yards and an interception in three brief appearances. Jeremy Payne gained 550 yards and four scores on the ground this season, while Eric McAlister caught 64 passes for 1,121 yards and 10 touchdowns. Jamel Johnson and Bud Clark led the defense with four interceptions each.
The Alamo Bowl marks the first meeting between the programs since TCU’s 28-19 win in the 1998 Sun Bowl, and the Horned Frogs lead the all-time series 3-2.
