The San Francisco 49ers faced a lot of adversity throughout the 2025 NFL season and dealt with more than their fair share of injuries.
Unfortunately, that adversity ended up being very obvious on Saturday night against the Seattle Seahawks. The 49ers saw their season come to an end in blowout fashion, losing to their NFC West division rival by a final score of 41-6.
At the end of the day, San Francisco was unable to overcome all of the injuries that piled up. Not having star tight end George Kittle, star pass rusher Nick Bosa, star linebacker Fred Warner, and plenty of other players led to not making the NFC Championship Game.

Following the loss to the Seahawks, the 49ers received a harsh warning.
Former NFL quarterback Kurt Benkert took to X to share a concerning outlook for San Francisco. He thinks that a rebuild will be coming soon.
“Bosa will be 29 next season. Trent will be 38 next season. Warner will be 30 next season. Kittle will be 33 next season,” Benkert wrote on X. “This window is over – ESPECIALLY with the rise of the young Seahawks roster. They will need to rebuild it FAST in San Fran if they want to stay relevant.”
There are some very real concerns that the 49ers will have to confront this offseason. They do have an aging roster that could need to be re-tooled at some point in the near future. However, the season is not all doom and gloom, nor is the future.
Simply having Kittle and Bosa back on the field would make a huge difference. Warner would have made a difference. There are other players who were forced to miss the game who would have made an impact.

Looking into the future, there are still reasons to be excited about San Francisco. If the 49ers can get back to full health and stay that way next season, they should be a contender once again in the NFC.
Benkert may be right about some changes needing to be made, but the idea that the window is over for San Francisco is a bit premature.
