The San Francisco 49ers attempted to continue a magical postseason run without stars George Kittle, Kurt Warner, and other key players in the lineup.
Unfortunately, they were on the bad side of a lopsided NFC Divisional Round game, with the Seattle Seahawks scoring on them early and often, en route to a 41-6 victory on Saturday night.
Before that, the 49ers had shown coaching brilliance as they thwarted the Philadelphia Eagles from scoring on them in the second half of their Wild Card game in Philly.
However, Saturday night’s result was far from brilliant, and head coach Kyle Shanahan didn’t hesitate to assign blame for his team’s embarrassing loss, which featured an inability to generate much offense.

“Obviously, we’re real disappointed with today. Obviously, we didn’t have it today. Credit to them. I tried not to harp on that. We can discuss some of that stuff on Monday,” “e told reporters at his postgame press conference.
“I know everyone in there was sick about tonight and every facet, but I tried not to make it about tonight,” the 49ers’ coach said, indicating he thanked his team for the season they put together.
Shanahan credited Seattle’s stellar defense for stopping them on third-and-one and fourth-and-one plays during the game.
“No one played great today. No one coached great today. They got us pretty good,” he said of the Seahawks’ convincing win.
“I’m very proud of a lot of guys, and we’re extremely disappointed right now,” Shanahan said, adding, “But that doesn’t take away from how I feel about the guys right now.”
Before the game, speculation arose about whether Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold would play through an oblique injury he had. He played, only throwing for 124 yards and a touchdown, but a standout game from the QB wasn’t necessary.
His Seahawks teammate Kenneth Walker III came through in a significant performance, rushing for 116 yards on 19 carries and scoring three touchdowns.
However, San Francisco couldn’t generate more than two field goals on offense, due to Seattle’s challenging defense.
Brock Purdy threw for 140 yards and an interception. He was also his team’s leading rusher with 37 yards on five carries. Christian McCafferey was limited by injuries, getting just 35 rushing yards and 59 receiving.
Shanahan indicated that while this loss is stinging and disappointing, they’ll process things soon to move past it and start on next season.
“We’ll come in Monday, and we’ll deal with all this stuff and put this game to bed and deal with all the players, and then we’ll very quickly start on our offseason plan and how to build the best team possible to give us another shot next year,” he said.
