An Atlanta native who was traded to his hometown team a year ago is on the move again.

Pitcher Davis Daniel, whose time with the Braves was limited to three games in 2025, signed a free agent contract with the Cincinnati Reds, according to Tread Athletics on Twitter/X.
Daniel, 28, was 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in three games (two starts) last year with the Braves.
In parts of three major league seasons with the Los Angeles Angels (2023-24) and Braves, Daniel is 2-6 with a 5.13 ERA across 12 games (eight starts).
Daniel spent most of last year with the Gwinnett Stripers, the Braves’ top minor league affiliate. He went 6-12 with a 5.60 ERA in 25 Triple-A games (17 starts).

A video posted to Tread’s Twitter/X account showed Daniel’s fastball topping out at 94.0 mph in a workout. Last year, the pitch averaged 89.8 mph in his limited major league exposure, per Statcast.
Daniel relies as much on his secondary offerings — a split-fingered fastball, slider and sweeper — as much as his four-seamer.

Daniel made headlines with his first big league start for the Angels as a 27-year-old rookie in 2024. He tossed eight scoreless innings, walked none, and allowed only four hits in a 5-0 victory against the Detroit Tigers.
However, Daniel made only two more starts before he was optioned back to the minors. In December 2024, the Angels traded Daniel to Atlanta for minor leaguer Mitch Farris.

Armed with a faster fastball, Daniel will try to get his longest look yet with the Reds, whose starters posted an outstanding 3.85 ERA as a staff last year despite calling one of the majors’ most hitter-friendly ballparks home.
Hunter Greene, Andrew Abbott, Brady Singer, Nick Lodolo and Chase Burns all return to form an enviably deep under-30 rotation. Daniel will be hard-pressed to crack that group barring an injury, but only three other listed starters (Rhett Lowder, Jose Franco, Chase Petty) are on the Reds’ 40-man roster.
