3 dead, 7 injured in L.A. after car crashes into 99 Ranch Market

Three people were killed and seven injured when a car crashed into the 99 Ranch Market in Westwood on Thursday.
The Los Angeles Fire Department was on the scene of the crash, which occurred at Westwood Boulevard and Rochester Avenue at 12:11 p.m. Fire officials were tending to the injured.
The seven injured people were taken to area hospitals in varying degrees of distress, said Lyndsey Lantz, a public information officer with the fire department. At least three people were seriously injured and two suffered minor injuries, she said. It’s unclear whether they were hit inside or outside the store, she said.
Investigators are trying to determine what led to the crash, including whether the driver suffered a medical issue, Lantz said. Los Angeles Police Department officers are on scene trying to piece together the circumstances.
The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety has also responded to assess the stability of the structure, though the car appears to have primarily hit windows, Lantz said.
