Elon Musk Responds to Fetterman Backing ID Requirement for Voting

Tech billionaire Elon Musk responded “Awesome” on X after reposting content highlighting Pennsylvania Democratic Senator John Fetterman’s support for voter ID requirements.

The post stated that Fetterman “joins the Republicans and comes out in favor of requiring an ID to vote in every election across the country,” quoting the senator as saying, “I do not believe that it’s unreasonable to show an ID to vote.”

Fetterman’s stance represents a notable departure from many Democratic lawmakers on voter identification requirements, a contentious issue that has divided Congress along partisan lines. His position aligns with Republican-led efforts to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which would mandate ID and proof of citizenship to register to vote.

Musk has consistently advocated for voter ID requirements. Last week, he warned that “democracy is dead” without such legislation, commenting on conservative pundit Glenn Beck’s support for the SAVE Act.

Congressional Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, support the SAVE Act, though it faces Democratic opposition in the Senate. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has compared the legislation to “Jim Crow 2.0,” stating that “every single Senate Democrat will vote against any bill that contains it.”
