Mom Delivers First Twin Naturally—Then Panics at What Doctor Says Next

A mom’s rare and intense birth experience is going viral after she revealed she delivered one twin vaginally, then underwent an emergency cesarean section just minutes later.

Grace Ferro, from West Virginia, had hoped for a vaginal delivery after previously giving birth without complications to her now-2‑year‑old. When Ferro learned she was expecting twins, doctors told her she was a good candidate to try for the same outcome, as both babies were positioned head‑down at the time of labor.

Still, Ferro was warned of a possibility unique to twin births: once the first baby is delivered, the second can sometimes change position. That warning quickly became reality.

“When Ezra was pushed out, he was put on my chest for a few seconds,” Ferro told Newsweek. “That’s when the doctor informed me that Margot had in fact flipped and moved away from my cervix. This led me to have an emergency c-section.”

Twins are typically delivered in an operating room due to the higher risks involved, and Ferro said the atmosphere shifted immediately once the call was made.

“The curtain went up [and] the doctor was yelling for an anesthesiologist to come quickly,” Ferro said. Her husband, James, was asked to step out while she was being prepared for surgery.

“Everyone was moving at lightning speed,” she added, while she lay there trying to process what was happening.

Emotionally, the moment was overwhelming. She mourned the loss of immediate skin‑to‑skin bonding with her son, but knew the C-section felt like the safest option.

“As a mom, you do whatever you have to do to get your babies earthside safely and healthily, and I knew this is what I needed to do,” Grace said.

The physical recovery proved equally challenging. The mom of three said she was in shock during much of the delivery, and complications with anesthesia meant she could feel pain as doctors worked to close her incision.

She was ultimately put fully under to finish the procedure, delaying bonding and breastfeeding. Nurses syringe‑fed the babies while she recovered.

Despite a smooth vaginal recovery, Grace remained hospitalized for a week due to gestational hypertension. The first weeks after discharge were difficult, especially while breastfeeding twins and caring for 2-year-old Maeve, but family support helped her through.

Grace posted her “proud” moment in a clip on TikTok (@gracehferro), which has amassed over 265,000 views.

Looking back, Grace said she has no regrets. While she sometimes wonders what might have happened if she had chosen differently, she is ultimately grateful both babies arrived safely—without needing NICU care at 36 weeks.

“It feels like an impossible decision to make when you’re in so much pain from the first delivery and your lives are essentially on the line,” Grace said. “I made the decision that felt right in that moment.”
