The 3 Potential WrestleMania Opponents for Gunther Revealed: Report
Since having his first WrestleMania match a few years ago in Los Angeles at WrestleMania 39, Gunther is one of the marquee names now for every major event the WWE puts on.
It will be no different at the upcoming WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas at Allegiant Stadium.
Last year, Gunther held the World Heavyweight Championship and opened the show in a loss to Jey Uso, but might even be more established this year, even without a title belt.
In the past year, the Austrian technical wrestler has retired legends Goldberg, John Cena, and, most recently, AJ Styles, donning the “Career Killer” moniker.
Instead of belts, Gunther is hunting icons to put out to pasture.
And while his program for WrestleMania 42 isn’t confirmed, there are reportedly three names being floated for Gunther to face at the biggest show of the year for WWE, per “WrestleVotes” of Fightful.

The first name from that list might be the most likely for Rey Mysterio. The famed luchador is 51 and, following numerous injuries, could be looking towards retirement sooner rather than later.
Gunther is currently feuding with Dragon Lee, and it would be a natural narrative evolution for the former world champion to turn his attention to Lee’s mentor, Mysterio, for another potential career-ending clash at ‘Mania.
The second potential opponent is Brock Lesnar, who is also being rumored to be close to retirement. Lesnar has an open challenge to anyone who wants to face him at WrestleMania, and though both are heels, the match would make sense with Gunther’s current gimmick.
Lesnar’s final match might take place this year in his home state of Minnesota at SummerSlam, which could mean the former UFC Heavyweight champion could win the initial contest at WrestleMania before losing his final match to Gunther in a rematch during the summer.
Finally, there’s the third name: Oba Femi. A stark difference between the first two is that Femi is younger than Gunther and only just begun what could be a decade-plus run at the top of the main event in the WWE.
The match would pit two immovable objects against one another, setting up a match that could foretell the future of WWE’s main event scene.
