After a disappointing 6–11 campaign and stretches where the offense struggled to consistently keep its franchise quarterback upright, the Chiefs entered the offseason with a clear need to stabilize the unit in front of their most valuable asset.
Now, a familiar piece of that unit is officially staying put.
According to reports on Saturday, veteran guard Mike Caliendo has agreed to a one-year deal to remain with the Chiefs.
The move keeps an experienced depth lineman in Kansas City despite interest from other teams around the league.

Caliendo’s path to the NFL was far from guaranteed. The Wisconsin native went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft after a collegiate career at Western Michigan before signing with the Chiefs as a free agent.
Like many undrafted linemen, he began his career on the margins, spending time on the practice squad before earning opportunities on the active roster. Over the next three seasons, he gradually carved out a role as a dependable rotational guard.
Through his first three NFL seasons, Caliendo appeared in 42 games with seven starts along the interior of the offensive line. The 6-foot-4, 301-pound lineman proved valuable for his versatility, logging snaps primarily at right guard while also providing depth across multiple interior positions.
In 2025 alone, Caliendo played more than 400 offensive snaps while allowing just two sacks, steady protection that helped keep Mahomes upright during critical stretches.
He has also been part of one of the most successful eras in franchise history, contributing to two Super Bowl championship teams since entering the league in 2022.
