Dayton knocked off top-seeded Saint Louis on Saturday when Amaël L’Etang tipped in a missed shot with 0.6 seconds left to give the Flyers a 70-69 victory. Jordan Derkack came off the bench to pour in 28 points in the win, while Javon Bennett finished with 17 points and four steals, and De’Shayne Montgomery went for 10 points and seven rebounds.
VCU blasted out to a 23-point halftime lead and cruised past No. 3 seed Saint Joseph’s 77-64 in its semifinal on Saturday. Terrence Hill Jr. led the attack with 18 points, with Jadrian Tracey dropping 13 points and Lazar Djokovic tossing in 13. Nyk Lewis pulled down eight rebounds as well.
The Rams swept two meetings from the Flyers this season, getting a 99-73 blowout at home on Feb. 6 and taking a 68-62 decision in Dayton on March 6.
Hill averages 14.4 points for VCU, while Djokovic posts 13.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Bennett is Dayton’s top scorer with an average of 16.3 points, Montgomery puts up 13.5 points and 2.3 steals per game, and L’Etang books 12.1 points and 5.9 boards a night.
