O’Hare Airport Baggage Handler’s Horrifying Video Goes Viral: ‘So Messed Up’
A baggage handler in Chicago has shared a video that left viewers on social media furious at the way luggage is treated behind the scenes at an airport.
TikTok user paranoidlag drew more than 2.7 million views in two days of a video in which suitcases and luggage moved by on a carousel in the back end of an airport, which he said was Chicago-O’Hare International.
However, the method of getting the suitcases to the carousel left many viewers enraged—from several yards away, workers threw the luggage toward the carousel.
The bags landed hard on the revolving track—some bouncing off the wall behind the carousel—hitting the metal surface so hard the wheels continued rotating.
“This y’all luggage,” the poster wrote in the overlaid text of the video, with two cry-laughing emojis.

Airlines will often pay for damaged luggage, but there is a cap on the amount they will cover and they often have exclusions of liability written into their contracts of carriage.
The United States’ Department of Transportation encourages travelers who have had their luggage damaged to file a claim as soon as possible.
‘Nothing funny about this’
TikTok viewers were generally horrified by the lack of care taken with the baggage, amid 9,800 comments.
“That’s honestly so messed up,” one critic declared.
“I really do hope robots take over this job,” a commenter added.
“Nothing funny about this whatsoever,” a pundit fumed, adding, “Luggage is expensive and so are its contents. Do better.”
One individual felt that, “being disrespectful simply because you can be disrespectful is ridiculous.”
However, a commentator did see one use for the video: “Saving this video so I can submit a claim on my damaged luggage.”
Airport Coverage Takes Off
Newsweek has previously covered viral social media stories from airports.
Not every baggage carousel is the same—one baggage handler from China was lauded in a popular video for taking care with the bags as he put them down.
One woman surprised her friend, who was arriving at the airport, with an extravagant welcome—gathering a number of strangers together to say, “Welcome home Morgan!”
Another traveler, meanwhile, took the advice of airports and arrived very early for a flight, only to find that he was the only one who did.
“Sure am glad I got here three hours before departure, guess the gate agents didn’t get that memo,” the poster remarked along with a photo that showed the empty gate.
Meanwhile, airports in Washington D.C. began facing significant delays last week. The Federal Aviation Administration alert said ground delays were occurring with triple-digit-minute wait times.
Newsweek has reached out to paranoidlag for comment via TikTok, as well as the Chicago-O’Hare International Airport via email.
