A bulldog who suffered a head wound while protecting her seven puppies during a hammer attack has finally found a loving place to call home.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) shared a Facebook update on March 15, revealing that the mother dog, Roxy, has begun a new chapter after months of recovery.
“Do you remember Roxy? The mum who bravely protected her puppies during a horrific hammer attack,” the RSPCA wrote in a Facebook post.
“After receiving expert care and plenty of love at RSPCA Doncaster and Rotherham Animal Centre [in the U.K.], Roxy has officially landed on her paws! She is now unconditionally loved in an amazing home, and all seven of her pups have started their own new chapters, too!”
The incident occurred at the end of November in Doncaster, England. An RSPCA press release said Roxy was “beaten with a hammer as she tried to protect her puppies.”
The bulldog was found by police with a head wound at a property in the Doncaster area after her owner admitted hitting her with a hammer.
Officers seized the dogs and contacted the RSPCA Doncaster and Rotherham branch, which arranged urgent veterinary treatment for Roxy and ensured she and her puppies were moved to a safe, warm environment where they could be cared for.
Puppies Rescued and Given New Names
The puppies—bulldog‑cross types aged around 5 weeks—were named Blue, Duke, Edward, Maria, Melody, Piper and Ruset.
At the time, it was hoped the puppies would soon be able to move into foster‑to‑adopt homes, while Roxy required more time to recover from her head injury.
Daniel Cartwright, branch manager, said in a statement: “When they first arrived, Roxy was in much need of some reassurance and care. She had a nasty wound to her head where her previous owner had beaten her while she was guarding her pups.
“As you can imagine, Roxy has found it difficult to trust people, but she has been making great progress. Her pups are thriving, and she has now received the veterinary treatment she needed and is certainly feeling better.
“We hope to put the pups up for fostering in the next few days with owners who would be keen to adopt—but it may take a little longer with Roxy as she still has the head wound and we want to make sure she is comfortable.”

Now more than three months on, Roxy and her puppies are thriving, with supporters flooding Facebook with comments of love and admiration.
“One very courageous doggy,” one user wrote, while many others described her as “brave.”
“I remember this. Her story made me cry. I’m so happy for her that she has found a loving home and I hope the abuser has been arrested.”
