LaGuardia Airport Crash: Air Canada Plane Collision Causes Closure


An Air Canada plane has collided with a Port Authority vehicle after landing at LaGuardia Airport, according to authorities.

The airport has closed, according to the Federal Aviation Administration’s National Airspace System website, after the collision on a runway at 11.38pm ET. There is no official confirmation of casualties.

The circumstances leading up to the incident are not immediately clear. Pictures and footage posted on social media appear to show the front of the aircraft with severe damage.

According to flight tracking website FlightRadar, the Air Canada Express CRJ-900 had flown to New York from Montreal and had a last reported groundspeed of 21 kts (around 24mph) before the collision.

The New York Police Department confirmed the collision to The Associated Press but could not offer additional information.
