Trump’s Disapproval Rating Hits All-Time High, Fox News Poll Shows
President Donald Trump’s disapproval rating has hit a record high for both his terms in office, a new poll from Fox News shows on Wednesday.
The survey reported rising discontent with Trump’s handling of Iran and foreign policy, and it followed other recent polling that found sharp partisan divides over the war in Iran.
Newsweek reached out to the White House via email for comment.
Why It Matters
Shifts in approval and disapproval ratings could signal broader erosion and complicate the Republican Party’s midterm strategies, especially as multiple trackers show Trump significantly underwater nationally.
Several recent surveys also recorded record or near‑record lows within key demographics, including men and independent voters, potentially compounding headwinds for the White House amid public concern over the cost of living in the U.S. and the war with Iran.
What To Know
According to the Fox News poll, Trump’s approval rating is 41 percent and his disapproval rating is 59 percent, the latter marking a new high for either of his terms in the Oval Office. For historical context, Fox News compared Trump’s standing to former President Barack Obama at a similar point in his second term, when Obama registered 40 percent approval and 53 percent disapproval in March 2014.
The poll surveyed 1,001 registered voters from March 20 to March 23 and has a margin of error of 3 percent.
Trump’s approval rating among Republicans also hit a new low for his second term in office, with 84 percent, and an all-time high disapproval score among GOP voters, with 16 percent, the poll shows.
The president’s approval rating on his handling of the war in Iran is 36 percent compared with a 64 percent disapproval rating, up from 57 percent disapproval in January before the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran. Trump’s approval mark on foreign policy is 38 percent, versus 62 percent of poll respondents disapproving.
Overall, the Fox News poll shows that 42 percent support the ongoing U.S. military action against Iran versus 58 percent who oppose it. The survey also shows that 77 percent of Republicans support it, compared with 28 percent of independents and 12 percent of Democrats.

What People Are Saying
Trump, on Truth Social Wednesday: “The Radical Left, Country Hating Democrats are trying to create inner chaos to take away from the great military achievement we are having in Iran. They hate seeing us WIN so completely and decisively, but the American public sees what is going on. AMERICA FIRST! President DJT”
Jon Favreau, who served as a speechwriter for Obama, on X Wednesday reacting to the poll: “If you’re a Republican on the ballot this fall, one thing to keep in mind about the dismal polling right now: the real pain from higher gas prices and energy costs has only just begun, and will almost certainly get worse”
Republican Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas, on X Tuesday: “Iran’s terrorist regime was developing the technology to target the United States within months. President Trump made the necessary, justified decision to protect our homeland.”
