FedEx Announces Major Change to Delivery Times
FedEx has announced the launch of a new delivery service—FedEx SameDay Local—aimed at giving customers faster, more flexible shipping options, according to the official FedEx press release.
What Is FedEx SameDay Local?
FedEx SameDay Local allows customers to choose either a two‑hour delivery window or an end‑of‑day, same‑day delivery slot directly at checkout.
The service is being offered in collaboration with OneRail, a last‑mile delivery company that specializes in operational optimization.
Once the shopper selects either the two‑hour or end‑of‑day delivery option at checkout, the order is automatically matched with an appropriate local driver and vehicle from a network of more than 1,000 delivery providers, allowing it to be quickly dispatched and tracked from pickup through arrival.

How FedEx SameDay Local Works
According to the company, FedEx SameDay Local uses intelligent, AI‑driven systems to optimize things like the delivery route, driver selection, and the overall performance.
Customers will get near real‑time tracking, predictive estimated arrival times, and proof of delivery, as well as 24/7 support and monitoring to help identify, communicate, and resolve any potential disruptions.
The service is also built to support large, oversized, or specialized shipments, making it a suitable option for retailers, manufacturers, and other businesses with complex logistics needs.
Why FedEx Is Expanding Same‑Day Delivery
FedEx says the launch of its new service is a response to changing consumer behavior.
Research cited by the company indicates that 96 percent of shoppers believe that “fast delivery” means they get it on the same day, and 80 percent expect to see a same‑day option at checkout. Almost half of consumers are more likely to complete a purchase if same‑day delivery is available.
At the same time, FedEx says that consumers don’t always want the fastest option. Some prefer precise delivery windows or lower costs, making flexibility just as important as speed. The company launched FedEx SameDay Local to meet these varied preferences without adding any operational or logistical complexity.
Jason Brenner, senior vice president for the digital portfolio at FedEx, said: “FedEx SameDay Local will provide our customers with a scaled solution to give the delivery options customers want, without adding complexity to their operations—all backed by the confidence of working with FedEx.”
What This Means for Retailers and Shippers
By integrating two-hour and same‑day delivery options directly into the checkout experience, FedEx is aiming to provide a scalable way for its business customers to compete in an environment where delivery speed, reliability, and transparency increasingly influence where consumers choose to shop.
