Iran War: Trump Declares ‘Big Day For World Peace’ After Iran 10-Point Plan

President Donald Trump has said it is “a big day for world peace” after announcing that the United States and Iran had agreed on a two-week ceasefire, provided that Tehran allows ships to pass through the vital Strait of Hormuz.

“Just like we are experiencing in the U.S., this could be the Golden Age of the Middle East!!!,” Trump said in a post to his Truth Social platform. Iran has said it agrees to stop the fighting as long as the country is not attacked by Israel or the U.S.

Trump’s declaration came roughly an hour before the expiration of his deadline at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Trump had said a “whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again,” unless Iranian officials consented to fully re-open the Strait of Hormuz.

• Trump said he had agreed to “suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks” as part of a “double sided” ceasefire, as long as Tehran immediately opens the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping.
• The president added that negotiators were “very far along with a definitive agreement” for a long-term deal with Iran.
• Iranian media published a run-down of its 10-point peace proposal, which includes a reference to an American “acceptance of [uranium] enrichment.” Iran possessing highly-enriched uranium – which can be used to make nuclear weapons – has been a red line for both Israel and the U.S previously.
• Israel praised the deal, but said it did not cover attacks on Iran-backed militants in Lebanon. Pakistan — the key intermediary in talks — disputed this statement.
