Bryson DeChambeau entered The Masters among the top contenders and made headlines when it was revealed he would use a 3D-printed 5-iron to compete in this year’s tournament.
His opening round of the event at Augusta National saw him finish the first round with a 4-over 76 after a triple-bogey on the 11th hole. Despite a dismal opening performance, he still had hope that he could improve and keep pace on the leaderboard in the second round.
And heading into the 18th hole on Friday, DeChambeau was at 3-over par, which would’ve made the cut line to allow him to continue playing this weekend. However, that 18th hole proved to be troublesome for the two-time U.S. Open winner.
He finished his second round at 6-over, and with the cut line at 4-over, meaning no more golf for DeChambeau this weekend. It’s clearly a disappointing result after he finished in fifth place in last year’s Masters.

Other notable players who missed the cut included J.J. Spaun, Ashkay Bhatia, and Robert MacIntyre. This is the first time that DeChambeau missed the cut since 2023.
It’s also a surprising performance considering how well he played in his recent LIV Golf tournaments away from the United States.
However, his 18th hole was the major issue on Friday, featuring several mistakes from the sand. By the time he finally put the ball in the par-4 hole, it was a triple-bogey 7 for him, and ended his time at Augusta National for this year’s event.
Video footage emerged of DeChambeau’s shot from the sand, which rolled down the hill as part of his frustrating finish on Friday.
DeChambeau was coming off two LIV wins as he went into The Masters. He captured last month’s LIV Golf South Africa and LIV Golf Singapore tournaments, which seemed to have him trending towards a strong outing at Augusta National.
The world’s No. 24 golfer entered this tournament among the top contenders, with odds to win that were behind Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, and near Jon Rahm. The other three golfers are former winners, and all made the cut, so they’ll move on to continue this weekend.
Of those three, McIlroy has been particularly impressive, with a significant six-shot lead over everyone else. Last year’s winner already has himself in a prime position to become the fourth player to go back-to-back as a Green Jacket winner.
