With a career in professional wrestling spanning over three decades, Chris Jericho has brought a multitude of memorable phrases, storylines, and matches to WCW, WWE, NJPW, ROH, and AEW. He left WWE several times, most recently in 2018, before joining AEW in 2019.
Since joining the company, he has led The Inner Circle, Jericho Appreciation Society, and The Learning Tree, each of which has had varying degrees of success with fans.
However, he has been on an extended absence from Tony Khan’s rival wrestling company since April, and speculation continues that he could return to WWE before retirement.

Some fans even believed that Jericho might surface in WWE as John Cena’s final opponent before Cena retires this year, although there’s been no official confirmation of this.
Meanwhile, as Jericho’s absence from AEW continues, the popular wrestling star dropped a statement on fans via social media, teasing what’s next for his career.
Taking to his official Instagram on Thursday, Jericho shared a photo of himself from much earlier in his wrestling career. In his caption message, he mentioned his first match occurred on Oct. 2, 1990, against Lance Storm in Ponoka, Alberta, Canada.
According to Jericho, there were approximately 85 people in the audience, and he received just $30 as compensation for that early match. He also said the match ended in a draw after 10 minutes, and he could remember “every little thing as if it happened only yesterday.”
From there, he shared his sentiments about his overall career in professional wrestling and revealed what his future holds.
“I have had a wonderful, amazing, one-in-a-million career since then…. and I wanna thank all of YOU from around the entire world for joining me for certain parts …or even all of it! And the Good news is….IT AIN’T OVER YET!” he informed fans.
As of this writing, Jericho’s Instagram post had received over 4,400 likes and numerous comments from friends, co-workers, and fans.
“What a journey! Congratulations!” wrote AEW’s Sammy Guevara.
“That’s insane! What a ride and you’re still going. Amazing!” longtime WWE star Natalya Neidhart commented.
“Hope you come back ‘home’ soon, Chris. We need Y2J,” a fan wrote, potentially referring to WWE as “home.”
In August, a notable wrestling insider shared that WWE has a strong interest in bringing Jericho back once his AEW contract expires. Based on the insider’s remarks, there were also acting WWE wrestlers who expressed interest in seeing him return.
The recent remarks from Jericho don’t confirm or deny those WWE rumors, but it appears he’s at least planning on some sort of wrestling comeback in the future, which is encouraging news for his diehard fans.
