Alabama’s Kalen DeBoer Has Message for Indiana’s Cignetti Before Rose Bowl
After weeks of rumors about whether or not Kalen DeBoer would stay in Alabama or move north to take the Michigan Wolverines head coaching job, the Crimson Tide leader is firm in his vision following a first-round win over the Oklahoma Sooners in the College Football Playoff.
Alabama is his past, present, and future, and the only thing in front of him is a date with the top-seeded Indiana Hoosiers in Pasadena on New Year’s Day in the Rose Bowl.
DeBoer spoke to the media today in a pre-quarterfinal press interview before the holidays later this week, and he praised his team for their comeback against the Sooners on the road in Norman.
Not only did he uplift his players and staff, but he also wanted to discuss the coach he will be facing in Southern California in a little over a week’s time, Curt Cignetti, who transformed the losingest program in college football history into a Goliath.
“Indiana, Coach Cignetti, amazing what he’s done,” DeBoer said.

He also said he followed the Hoosiers extremely closely during the season, as he coached there as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2019.
While he lavished praise on his opponent at the Rose Bowl, he also remained steadfast in his belief in his team. DeBoer revealed that his team hasn’t been as healthy all year and that they should be heading to the quarterfinals with a full arsenal.
“I wouldn’t trade it for the world,” he said when asked about his current position with the Crimson Tide. “I think there are things that you do that give you an appreciation for the moment you’re in. Having an opportunity be here at Alabama.”
