Alex Bregman Favored To Sign Near-$200 Million Deal With AL Contender
The Alex Bregman sweepstakes have taken over baseball as the former Houston Astros superstar is the top free agent left on the market.
The Astros were reportedly out of the sweepstakes, but following a change of heart and Bregman remaining in free agency, Houston is reportedly back in the mix to acquire him.
Not only are the Astros back in the race, but they might be considered the favorites to win it.
FanSided’s Cody Williams recently tabbed the incumbent Astros as the favorites to win the $200 million Bregman sweepstakes.

“What the machinations of that look like remain in question,” Williams wrote. “It was recently posited that Houston could move Isaac Paredes, who arrived in the Kyle Tucker trade, to second base and Jose Altuve to left field. That seems unlikely, to say the least. It was also reported that the Astros have interest in Jorge Polanco, which would surely be a pivot from Bregman.
“All this is to say, the Astros orchestrating a return of Bregman to Houston is the favorite in the clubhouse right now. But as has been the case with arguably the top remaining free agent on the open market throughout the winter, this situation still feels wildly fluid.”
It was hard to understand how the Astros were willing to let Bregman walk in free agency over $50 million. Houston’s offer was reported to be around $156 million while Bregman is likely looking for closer to $200 million.
At this point, it’s even harder to imagine the Astros dropping out of the race twice.
With Jose Altuve outwardly saying he will change positions to have his teammate brought back, it’s hard to not consider the Astros the favorites.
I would be quite shocked to see him sign elsewhere at this point.
