‘American Idol’ 2025 Results: Who Went Home On Disney Night? What Happened?

With just one week until the American Idol Season 23 finale, Sunday night’s episode combined nostalgia and emotion as the top seven contestants performed Disney classics and Mother’s Day tributes. But only five would advance, and two were eliminated based on viewer votes.

What Happened on ‘American Idol’ Last Night?

The May 11 episode was themed around “Disney Night,” with each contestant performing a song from the Disney canon, followed by a dedication to a maternal figure. The show’s guest mentor was Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Moana and Encanto songwriter, who coached the singers ahead of their performances.

The performances spanned the emotional and the celebratory. Thunderstorm Artis delivered “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas and debuted an original song, “Out of the Blue,” written for his wife. “I’ve never been more depressed to be single than in this moment,” host Ryan Seacrest joked after the performance.

Breanna Nix impressed judges with “Reflection” from Mulan, and for her second number, she honored her mother with “Like My Mother Does.” Carrie Underwood told her: “That was so beautiful. Your voice, the song, the moments. All of it.”

Jamal Roberts performed “Go the Distance” from Hercules and followed it with Sam Cooke’s “A Change is Gonna Come,” dedicated to his late stepmother.

Gabby Samone struggled with lyrical errors in “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana but rebounded with a stirring rendition of “Home” from The Wiz.

Who Was Eliminated?

Gabby Samone and Mattie Pruitt were eliminated after Sunday’s double cut. Pruitt had delivered a touching version of “Remember Me” from Coco, and later sang “Those Kind of Women” by Lauren Alaina, dedicated to both her mom and stepmom. Though both received positive reviews, neither earned enough viewer votes to continue.

The top five advancing to the penultimate round are:

  • Breanna Nix
  • Jamal Roberts
  • John Foster
  • Slater Nalley
  • Thunderstorm Artis
