Analyst Makes Bold Cowboys Claim Eagles Fans Won’t Want to Hear
The No. 1 rule for being a Philadelphia Eagles fan is you do not root for the Dallas Cowboys.
The long-standing rivals have gone neck and neck in recent seasons, practically bouncing back and forth between division winners. However, would fans root for the Cowboys if it put a fire under the Eagles?
On Thursday morning’s 94WIP’s middays show, hosts Joe Giglio and former Eagles defensive end Hugh Douglas discussed what tonight’s Dallas Cowboys-Detroit Lions game would mean for the Eagles as they face the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night.
After the Cowboys came back from their bye week and beat the Raiders, they proceeded to carry that momentum into a 24-21 win against the Eagles and 31-28 win against the Chiefs on Thanksgiving. This positions the Cowboys to actually contend for the division, something the Eagles are trying to prevent.
“If the Cowboys lose tonight, you know, the Eagles have a little bit more cover on Monday, but I wonder, if the Cowboys win tonight, they have to be on their Ps and Qs Monday, ’cause it’s like they have to win that.” Douglas said.
For that reason, Douglas insinuated that he’d be rooting for the Cowboys – solely for the Eagles to find motivation again. Giglio jokingly pulled the conversation back, reminding Douglas that they should not root for Cowboys for any reason.
“If Dallas does win tonight, [I could think] in my head, ‘Oh, this could be good for Eagles focus.’ But I can’t go into the game tonight thinking, that. I can’t put the TV on 8 o’clock [and think that].” Giglio said.
“I think if that happens, that’s gonna light a fire to us, because this time it’s time to walk,” Douglas responded.
If the Cowboys win against the Lions and Eagles lose against the Chargers, the Cowboys will take the division. Should the Eagles win and Cowboys lose, the Eagles will extend their division lead by two games, crucial for their first seed campaign.
