Are 1.4 Million American Women Using OnlyFans? What We Know
It was stated that 1.4 million American women use OnlyFans in a post on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, which went viral earlier this week.
OnlyFans is an online content-sharing platform that can be used to share any kind of content, such as photos, recipes and writing, but is particularly popular among sex workers.
Creators upload content to their accounts that only their fans can see, but fans typically pay a fee, decided by the creator, to see it. The creator keeps 80 percent of the fees paid, while the rest goes to the platform.
The post was shared by the World of Statistics X account, @stats_feed, on December 3 and has since accumulated more than 3.6 million views.
The data seems to stem from a report by the Washington Examiner, written a year ago, which found that, of the 3 million creators on the platform, 67 percent of revenue goes to Americans.
The outlet then calculated that, if revenue share was taken to be an average per user, 2 million Americans are creators on the platform.
In addition, 70 percent of Americans using the platform are women, the WashingtonExaminer found, meaning 1.4 million American women are OnlyFans creators.
The outlet went further, saying that 2 percent of American women aged between 18 and 45 are creating content on the platform.
As a lot of the content shared on OnlyFans is of an adult nature, users must be 18 or older and provide a government-issued ID proof to sign up.
OnlyFans does not provide these statistics about its platform, but Newsweek has contacted the site via email to verify these numbers.
These calculations are rough deductions and do not take into consideration that some OnlyFans users make significantly more money than others, making it impossible to know exactly how many American women are creating content on the platform.
For example, 20-year-old Sophie Rain revealed this week that she made $43 million on OnlyFans after only creating content for the platform for the past year.
Her fans pay $10 a month to view her content, although she is also running an offer for first-time subscribers to see her content for $5, according to Yahoo.
She previously disclosed on a podcast appearance that she was making as much as $4 million a month.
Another OnlyFans model also recently shared the multi-million sum she has generated while creating content on the site.
Corinna Kopf said in October that she would be retiring from the site after earning $67 million in three years, according to Yahoo.
Her monthly earnings hit $1 million five times in the time period between June 2021 to February 2022, with the lowest amount still being a whopping $600,000.
