Ariana Grande Teases Glinda’s New Song in Wicked: For Good
Jon M. Chu says fans will ‘melt into the ground’ over Wicked: For Good, and Ariana Grande has given us a new reason to believe that to be true by teasing the new songs in Wicked part two in a new interview.
During an interview in November, Chu revealed, “We have two new songs that I can’t talk about yet, but they’re very, very fantastic.”
He may not have been able to speak about them then, but Ariana Grande has been given the green light and divulged details to Clayton Davis at Variety during her visit to the Variety Awards Circuit podcast.
“I don’t want to give away too much as far as what it sounds like,” Grande says, “but I will say I’m really grateful for this song in particular because I do think it’s a really important narrative piece.”
Grande says that the new song is an “important and pivotal moment for Glinda” and “it’s a decision making moment.”
Fans of the Broadway musical will already be looking forward to Grande hitting the high notes in the opening act two song, “Thank Goodness” as well as seeing her work through the heartfelt emotion of “I’m Not That Girl (Reprise)”, and of course singing hand in hand once more with Erivo as they reunite for “For Good“. However, Stephen Schwartz has penned a new track for Glinda, and it’s coming in the follow-up film, which hits theaters on November 21, 2025.
“We see these layers of her privileged bubble pop and pop and pop as she grows and as we go along her journey. The first one being in the Ozdust ballroom,” Grande tells Davis. “That’s the first time we see one of the layers of her bubble of lack of awareness or privilege or whatever you want to call it pop for the first time. I think that’s when the final layer to it is fully popped, and her full heart is on the surface, and you get to really meet Glinda the Good.”
Grande says she is “grateful that the audience gets to see it now. You feel it in the stage show because it happens in the wings, and we see the result of it, but now we get to actually watch it happen.”
As for how Grande feels about the song, she says, “I love the song, and I love Stephen Schwartz, and it’s such an honour to be the Glinda to sing it first. I hope it makes its way into the stage show at some point.”
Davis probed Grande for how much involvement she had in the making on the song, asking if she was a co-writer on the track.
“No, that’s a Stephen Schwartz classic,” she says. “He’s the Wicked king. The man behind the curtain, if you will.”
Ariana Grande says she hasn’t seen Wicked: For Good yet, but the film will likely be deep in the post-production trenches, prepping for its release later this year.
The film’s first part was released in November 2022 and has garnered critical acclaim, which has led to an awards run –– one that landed the film four Golden Globe nominations, including a nod for both Grande and Erivo.
