Bears Star DJ Moore Pushes Back on Rumor Players Wanted Shane Waldron Fired
The Chicago Bears are currently in a transition period, as the team has dropped their last three games. The three straight losses put added pressure on head coach Matt Eberflus, who revealed that big changes would be coming in the organization.

One of those big changes was replacing offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. Waldron was relieved of his duties, and replaced by passing game coordinator Thomas Brown. After Waldron was let go, rumors circulated that Bears players were responsible for him being fired.
Now, Bears star DJ Moore has addressed those rumors, stating that nobody called for Waldron to be fired.
When speaking to reporters, Moore was asked about how he feels regarding the changes that were made, considering he is one of the veterans on the team.
“I mean, this is a business. We weren’t putting out the results that we needed to. That being said, we did let go of Shane. That was shocking. I don’t think anyone asked for him to be gone. We expressed our frustration, but never to have somebody’s livelihood taken away … but it’s on to Thomas, and now we have to support Thomas,” Moore stated.
Moore did indicate that players expressed their frustration about the offense, and reports indicated that both Eberflus and Bears general manager Ryan Poles were part of those conversations. What appears not to be the case, at least Moore is players wanting Waldron to be let go.
Despite what players wanted or didn’t want, the Bears have moved on. Now, Brown will have his shot to run the offense for the rest of 2024, and presumably work his way into keeping the job next season as well.
Another report emerged that certain veteran players also approached Eberflus about benching Caleb Willaims. When Eberflus announced big changes were going to be made, he also revealed that Williams would remain the team’s starting quarterback.

Williams has not thrown a touchdown pass since Week 6. Whether or not that is the regression of his being a rookie or the play-calling that Waldron put together, the team is looking for answers. Brown can not provide those answers with a new offensive plan.
Should Williams struggle again, there could be a situation where Eberflus has to consider benching the rookie. That moment has not happened, but the Bears might now be in panic mode to figure out how to get some wins and stay in the playoff race for the NFC.
