Ben Affleck Channel’s Nicole Kidman Post-Tom Cruise Divorce
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Just days after Jennifer Lopez officially filed for divorce, Ben Affleck appeared to be in high spirits as he received a fast-food delivery at his Brentwood home over the weekend.
In images shared by Page Six on Monday, August 26, the actor can be seen with a wide grin while accepting a Jack In the Box order from a delivery person.
Affleck’s upbeat demeanor was strikingly similar to that of another iconic moment in celebrity divorce history –– Nicole Kidman’s 2001 divorce from Tom Cruise. Kidman was famously photographed leaving her attorney’s office, arms raised in apparent relief and joy, after finalizing her divorce from the Mission Impossible actor. The image has since become a widely known cultural reference, circulating in various memes over the years.
Fan reactions to the news were rampant on social media, particularly X (formerly known as Twitter). One user reposted the news with the comment, “Ben Affleck in his Nicole Kidman’s era,” along with the iconic photo of Kidman.
“Dude got a divorce and looks healthy af,” another fan noted, while a third said, “Bro got rid of Jen and decided to celebrate with some good food. King sh–t.”
The divorce papers, filed by Lopez, 55, on Tuesday, August 20 and obtained by Newsweek, cite irreconcilable differences and note April 26, 2024 as the date of separation. Lopez has waived any rights to spousal support and requested the same be denied to Affleck, 52. Interestingly, the couple reportedly did not have a prenup in place, meaning that any income or assets accumulated during their marriage could be divided equally.
While Lopez has reportedly put in considerable effort to bond with the Town actor’s children –– Violet, 18, Fin (Seraphina), 15, and Samuel, 12 –– sources suggest Affleck hasn’t developed the same rapport with Lopez’s twins, Max and Emme. While the “Jenny From The Block” singer has often been spotted enjoying outings with Affleck’s children, including an ice cream date with Violet and shopping with Samuel, Affleck hasn’t been seen spending time with her twins. An insider told People that he remains “not in touch” with Max and Emme, despite Lopez having previously praised him as a great father figure.
