Bill Belichick, North Carolina Hit With Brutal News After NC State Defeat
It’s safe to assume that no one is happy with Bill Belichick’s debut season as head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels.
UNC finished 4-8 and ended the year on a three-game losing streak, punctuated with a 42-19 shellacking by NC State on Saturday.
Though there’s plenty of room for improvement as Belichick heads into Year 2 (if he doesn’t bolt for an NFL head-coaching job over the next few months), things got off on a sour note immediately after the team’s season finale.
It was revealed over the weekend that two Tar Heels wide receivers — Chris Culliver and Jason Robinson — plan to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

“North Carolina receiver Jason Robinson plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, per On3’s Pete Nakos,” On3’s Chandler Vessels wrote. “Robinson spent just one season in Chapel Hill after transferring from Washington this offseason.”
Culliver, a former four-star recruit, announced his decision himself on X. The 6-foot-2 junior wideout was the No. 5 player in North Carolina, the No. 18-ranked wide receiver, and the No. 118 recruit in the country in the class of 2023.
“I would like to thank each and every fan here🩵 you’ll have supported me when things weren’t going so well. Very grateful for yall.. with that being said, I am planning on entering the transfer portal. Thank you UNC for everything🩵,” Culliver announced on social media Sunday morning.

In three seasons, Culliver logged just 12 catches, 276 yards, and three touchdowns across 11 games.
Conversely, Robinson, a three-star recruit and Washington Huskies transfer, didn’t play a down this season.
The good news for UNC fans is they currently has the No. 17 recruiting class in 2026.
Belichick will have a few options to replace his departing wide receivers in four-star recruits Carnell Warren and Keeyun Chapman, and three-star WRs Kymistrii Young, Nyqir Helton, and Zamourious Robertson.
