The Major League Baseball offseason is a wild time.
Each year, rumors and speculation start to pick up before a season even ends, pointing to different places players could go in free agency or through trades. The beginning of the offseason is a fun time because there is hope for each team. Soon enough, we’ll see guys start to sign left and right, which will be a buzzkill for teams that miss out.
This year’s big-name free agent is Kyle Tucker. He helped turn the Chicago Cubs around in 2025 and is expected to land a lucrative deal this offseason. The Toronto Blue Jays are one of the teams that have been linked to him the most. For example, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand said that the Blue Jays were the team he heard the most mentioned for Tucker throughout the general manager meetings.
“You’ve heard the same teams named all week — the Yankees, the Phillies, the Dodgers,” Feinsand said. “The one team I heard more than anybody else connected to Tucker was the Blue Jays,” Feinsand said. “Obviously right now (the Blue Jays have) all the momentum in the world coming off the World Series appearance. … I think Tucker is certainly going to be in the mix there in Toronto.”
That’s interesting in itself. Clearly, fans are interested in the sweepstakes right now. This is to the point that an old Instagram post from Tucker’s wife, Sam, made the rounds on social media this weekend in which she called a 2024 visit to Toronto a “dream.”
“From Canada Day to a wine and class Master Class (Bridgerton vibes), Toronto was a dream visit!”
The post was from 2024. At the end of the day, it will very likely have no impact at all on the sweepstakes. But, this is the time of the year to try to read into everything.
