Blue Jays Manager Reacts to Wild Game-Ending Double Play to Force Game 7

The Los Angeles Dodgers forced a Game 7 after a wild finish to Friday’s 3-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.

With runners on second and third and one out in the ninth, Andres Giminez hit a fly ball to left field that was caught by Kiké Hernandez. The Dodgers’ utility man made a throw to second to get Addison Barger out, which ended the bottom of the ninth inning.

Manager John Schneider reacted to the double play that kept the Dodgers’ season alive.

“It’s a tough read. Kiké played shallow and one out, you’re thinking score. He made a really good play,” Schneider said. “It’s such a tweener. Good play, good throw, good play by (Miguel) Rojas too. Wild. Wild way to finish it, for sure.”

The Dodgers had their ace on the mound in Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and it benefited the defending champions greatly in Game 6. The right-hander allowed one earned run on five hits with six strikeouts and a walk across six innings of work against the Blue Jays.

In each of his last three starts, Yamamoto allowed no more than five hits, allowed no more than one run, allowed no more than one walk, struck out five-plus batters, and earned the win. No one else in MLB history has done that in three consecutive postseason starts, according to OptaSTATS.

Yamamoto’s solid start kept the Dodgers in the game, and the Dodgers’ offense mustered three runs, which was enough to outperform Toronto’s lineup Friday night.

Tyler Glasnow recorded his first MLB save in World Series Game 6 as he entered the game with a second and third no outs jam and the winning run at the plate. The right-hander needed just three pitches to record three outs, sending the Dodgers to Game 7.

And so, the Dodgers and Blue Jays are headed to a Game 7 where anything can happen. The 2025 MLB season ends Saturday night.
