Blue Jays Named ‘Likely Landing Spot’ For $60 Million Red Sox Free Agent
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Nick Pivetta is one of the more interesting free agents left on the market. The righty is likely headed out of Boston after the Red Sox acquired both Walker Buehler and Garrett Crochet during the early stages of the offseason.
Now Pivetta is left in the open market without much direction.
Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller recently tabbed the Toronto Blue Jays as one of the most likely landing spots for the aforementioned Pivetta. The righty is projected to sign for $60 million, per Spotrac.

“In what feels like a game of ‘One of these things is not like the other,’ the three players who rejected qualifying offers and still haven’t signed contracts are Pete Alonso, Alex Bregman … and Nick Pivetta,” Miller wrote. “He provided a decent amount of value to the Red Sox over the past four seasons, logging at least 140 innings pitched in each, with an ERA ranging from 4.04 to 4.56.
“Was it enough for the almost 32-year-old to get a three-year or a four-year deal on the open market? Thus far, apparently not. And the longer that he lingers in free agency, the more likely it is that he settles for one of those ‘one year plus a player option’ deals that have been all the rage in recent years.”
The Blue Jays don’t necessarily need to add starting pitching to their roster, but after whiffing on so many stars, they should spend the money on somebody. If Pivetta is willing to come to Toronto on a two-year deal that the Blue Jays like, it would be foolish of them to not go after him.
