Brownie Recall Sparks Warning to Customers

Innovation Bakers, LLC in California has voluntarily recalled 7-Eleven fudge brownie packs due to potential undeclared walnuts, in an alert on Wednesday.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall is for one day’s worth of production of about 2,100 single-serve units of brownies that were delivered on Sunday and Monday to 7-Eleven stores throughout Southern California.

The recall was initiated due to the potential of undeclared walnuts in the brownies. The FDA warns that people with a sensitivity or allergy to walnuts may “run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions” if they eat the recalled brownie. The product has a best of date of Wednesday, the FDA notes.

As of Wednesday, the FDA says there have been no reported illnesses related to the recall. Newsweek has also reached out to Innovation Bakers, LLC via email for comment on Wednesday.

Customers who have purchased the 3.5 oz brownie pack with a 05254856392 number are urged to throw it away or return it to the original purchase location for a full refund, the FDA alert notes. The FDA also posted pictures of the impacted brownies in the recall alert and said no other 7-Eleven products are impacted.

In addition to the 7-Eleven fudge brownie packs, numerous products have been recently recalled. Most notably, cinnamon products have been recalled nationwide amid fears of potential lead contamination along with Boar’s Head meat products being recalled due to a fatal listeria outbreak.

This month, Eagle Produce LLC in Arizona also recalled whole cantaloupes due to the fear of potential Salmonella contamination. The impacted product was distributed between August 13-17 in Virginia, Texas, Michigan, Missouri and Ohio and sold throughout supermarkets, the FDA says.

The 224 cases of impacted cantaloupes have a UPC number code of 4050 and lot code number 846468 and are identifiable by a white and red KANDY sticker across the top, according to the FDA. No illnesses were reported as of September 6 due to this recall; the FDA also notes.

The FDA says Salmonella could cause “serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems” while also noting healthy people could experience abdominal pain or fever.
