Browns Announce Significant Shedeur Sanders News Before NFL Draft

The NFL draft is just weeks away, and with it, every team around the league will welcome new talent to its roster. It’s also the time when focus begins to shift toward the 2026–27 season, as fans get a clearer picture of how teams may look moving forward.

Ahead of the draft, the Cleveland Browns took to social media to announce notable news regarding quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who will be entering his second season with the organization after a promising rookie year.

Sanders, who previously wore No. 12, will be changing his jersey number — a notable update for fans who purchased his jersey last season — as he returns to his longtime number, No. 2, which he wore in both high school and college.

“S2,” the Browns posted. “Shedeur Sanders will wear No. 2 next season.”

Sanders reacted to the news by subtly posting “#2” on his X account. Now, fans who purchased his No. 12 jersey may have to consider buying a new one if they want the updated number — unless they opt for a jersey exchange, which is sometimes available when a player changes numbers mid-career.

“OG 12 Sanders jersey owners stand up,” one fan wrote.

Another added, “After we bought all of these 12 jerseys.”

“OH MY GOD. YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!” another fan posted.

“Of course I bought a 12 jersey,” one more fan commented.

Sanders likely wanted this jersey last year, but as a rookie, he came last in the selection order. Wide receiver Deandre Carter, who signed a one-year deal with the team, got to the number first. Sanders, a fifth-round pick, had to wait his turn.

Now, with Carter an unrestricted free agent, the number became available, and Sanders jumped on it before the Browns added a host of new players through the draft.
