Browns Pushed to Aggressively Pursue Star WR Before NFL Trade Deadline

Many teams are reportedly eyeing blockbuster moves before this year’s NFL trade deadline, including the Cleveland Browns.

The Browns are 2-5 heading into Sunday’s Week 8 clash against Drake Maye and the red-hot New England Patriots. After this matchup, Kevin Stefanski’s team will then enter its Week 9 bye, allowing the organization to fully turn its attention toward the Nov. 4 deadline.

The Browns are reportedly asking around about wide receiver options available on the trade market.

Cleveland’s WR room is notably-thin, featuring names like Jerry Jeudy, Isaiah Bond and Jamari Thrash. Veteran pass catcher Cedric Tillman is on injured reserve until at least Week 10.

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson is reportedly a name that’s popped up in general manager Andrew Berry’s pursuit of improved wide receiver options.

Browns insider Tony Rizzo made his feelings about this potential move very clear during Wednesday’s episode of “The Tony Rizzo Show.”

“I would drive to New York to get him,” Rizzo said. “… We’ll take him. We’ll take him in a heartbeat.”

Jeudy is the leading wide receiver for the Browns so far this season, reeling in just 22 catches for 257 yards and zero touchdowns. Bond, a rookie out of Texas, is the team’s second-leading WR with 11 catches for 123 yards and no touchdowns.

The Jets are 0-7 to start the 2025 season, and Wilson is understandably frustrated. Led by subpar quarterback play from Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor, New York has one of the worst offensive units in the league.

“We gotta have that nothing to lose mentality,” Wilson said after the Jets’ Week 6 loss to the Denver Broncos. “It’s gotta be obvious. We’re out there as players and it’s like: Let’s go. I feel like y’all should see that. The fans, the media, y’all should be able to see we’re playing like we have nothing to lose. I don’t think that was there today. We’re 0-6, man. Like, why?”

Wilson has 36 catches for 395 yards and four touchdowns through six game appearances with the Jets this season. The fourth-year pass catcher missed Sunday’s Week 7 loss to the Carolina Panthers with a knee injury.
