The Buffalo Bills kicked off their offseason with a bang. Trading for former Chicago Bears WR D.J. Moore gave Josh Allen the WR1 he was craving for since Stefon Diggs left, and it was certainly a step in the right direction to start the Joe Brady era.
However, after watching the Bills knock on the door of Super Bowl contention for so long and still not being able to push through, Brandon Beane needs to keep adding more weapons for his superstar quarterback.
Considering that, Bills insider Ryan Talbot of NYUP argued on his “Shout! The Buffalo Football podcast,” that they should make a run at Jauan Jennings:
“I said Jauan Jennings is still sitting out there, 29 years old,” Talbot said. “Two years ago, with the 49ers, almost 1000-yard season, thought he was pretty good last year as well.”
Jennings was an overlooked late-round pick, but he’s stepped up in the past couple of years in the midst of the San Francisco 49ers’ myriad.
He fell just shy of 1,000 receiving yards two years ago, and he hauled in 55 catches for 643 yards and nine touchdowns last season, even though he dealt with shoulder, rib, and ankle injuries.
However, Jennings may have priced himself out of multiple teams’ wish lists. Spotrac projects his next contract to be three years and $67.8 million, an annual average value of $22.6 million, which might be a little too much for a player coming off an injury-plagued campaign.
That said, the Bills still have roughly over $12 million in available cap space and will free more with some post-June 1 moves. Also, after watching the market dry up and the Niners moving on with Mike Evans, Jennings might want to reconsider his financial aspirations, especially to play with a perennial MVP candidate like Josh Allen.
