Buster Posey Breaks Silence After Giants Sell at Trade Deadline

Buster Posey has been aggressive in his pursuit of making the San Francisco Giants contenders. However, his team’s recent struggles forced him to make a difficult decision at this year’s trade deadline.

Under Posey, the Giants have given big contracts to Matt Chapman and Willy Adames. They also made the most shocking trade of the season by acquiring Rafael Devers. However, since the Devers trade, the team has one of the worst records in baseball, and in the last week, the Giants traded away Tyler Rogers, Camilo Doval and Mike Yastrzemski.

Posey spoke on his decision to sell at the deadline, noting that he wishes he were in a different position.

“We wish we were in a spot that we were adding,” Posey said, per The Athletic’s Andrew Baggarly. “But as poorly as we played since the All-Star break, I think we all felt the best decision for the organization was to try to get some pieces coming back that will help us in the future.”

The Giants were in a position to threaten the Dodgers in the National League West. However, their recent play is simply not living up to the standard they set early in the year.

“We’ve got to play better baseball, plain and simple,” Posey said, per The Athletic. “We just haven’t looked like the same team as we did at the beginning of the year. You know, I felt like at the beginning of the year, we harped on doing little things. It was clean baseball. And then we’ve taken a 180. So we’ve somehow got to recapture that form, that style of baseball that we had at the beginning of the season. Losing (these) veteran players does impact your team, but we still feel like we’ve got a group that should go out there and perform much better than they have.”

The Giants entered Friday six games out of a wild card spot in the National League and have just moved on from some key players. The postseason is a long shot, but Posey still expects his team to play better than it has recently.
