Canada Makes Historic Sidney Crosby Announcement Amid Olympics

It was pure dominance at the Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena on Sunday as Canada defeated France 10-2 to improve to 3-0 in Group A preliminary play.

Nine different players scored, with 19-year-old phenom Macklin Celebrini netting two goals. Canada has now outscored its opponents 20-3 through three games, joining the United States as the only unbeaten team in the field.

Shortly after the win, Canada announced historic news for captain Sidney Crosby, who recorded three points — one goal and two assists — to raise his Olympic total to 16 points across the 2010, 2014 and 2026 Games. That total surpasses Jarome Iginla for the most by any Canadian in Winter Olympics featuring NHL players.

Fans reacted to the two-time Olympic gold medalist’s historic milestone:

“Oh Captain my Captain,” a fan said.

Someone else added, “OH I LOVE THE GRAPHIC.”

Another person wrote, “As a lifelong Iginla fan, there couldn’t be a better person/player to surpass him. Both are absolute Canadian beauties.”

“Watch out, McDavid might surpass that this Olympics,” one more fan commented.

Many Canadians are vying for their first gold medal, as this marks the first time NHL players have returned to the Winter Olympics since 2014 — which was Sidney Crosby’s second stint at the Games.

Through three games, however, Canada star Connor McDavid is off to a historic start of his own. He has recorded three points in each contest, giving him nine before the knockout stage even begins.

Canada will be back in action Tuesday, along with the United States, as the top two seeds await their opponents based on Monday’s results.
