As NFL teams scramble to trim their roster to 53 ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, a flurry of roster moves continues to come in.

The Arizona Cardinals are one of many teams still looking to cut their roster to 53 via trades as well as releases, and they have made a couple noteworthy moves.

Thomas, 24, was selected in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Cardinals. The San Diego State product appeared in all 17 games his rookie season, accumulating 18 tackles, six quarterback hits, and three sacks.

In 2023, Thomas appeared in 15 games and got his first three career starts. He had 22 tackles and one fumble recovery for a touchdown, the first touchdown of his career.

The Cardinals had tons of depth at the linebacker position and felt comfortable moving on from Thomas. As for the Chiefs, they’re taking a chance on the former third-round pick, hoping he can become a steal for the seventh rounder they traded.

On Tuesday, the Cardinals continued to trim their roster, and cut Ridder. The Cardinals acquired the young quarterback from the Falcons this offseason for wide receiver Rondale Moore. He was expected to back up Kyler Murray, but instead lost that job to Clayton Tune.

Ridder was selected in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He’s appeared in 19 games (17 starts) across the last two seasons, throwing for 3,544 yards with 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Ridder has a record of 8-9 as a starter, and will now look for his next home to continue his NFL career. Ridder’s release, on top of the release of Bailey Zappe from the New England Patriots and the trade of Malik Willis from the Tennessee Titans, continues to validate the San Francisco 49ers for selecting Brock Purdy with the final pick of the 2022 draft.

Purdy has become the only starting-caliber quarterback from his class thus far, and has led the 49ers to back-to-back NFC Championship Games. The eight quarterbacks selected ahead of him are struggling to find playing time at the NFL level.

Ridder will hope to find his next home soon.
