Cat Discovers New Method to Get Attention—Turning Off Breathing Machine
Cats are often viewed as independent animals that don’t necessarily love attention. But their owners will be the first to tell you that these fur babies will go to extremes when they want all eyes on them.
A cat named Lottie might have taken things a step too far when she wasn’t getting the attention she wanted. Instead of politely asking, or pawing at, TikTok user @emiannbrown’s roommate, Lottie tried to take the person’s breath away, literally.
Monday’s TikTok video explained that Lottie learned that if she stands on the roommate’s continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine, she can turn it off. This forces the person using it to wake up, which was all part of Lottie’s plan. The text on the clip states that Lottie will do this whenever she “feels she’s not getting enough attention.”
A CPAP machine is one of the most common treatments for sleep apnea, which is when a person’s breathing is constantly interrupted during sleep. This machine allows a person’s airways to remain open and receive oxygen, the Cleveland Clinic says. CPAP machines improve sleep quality and reduce a person’s risk of health problems, such as heart disease and strokes.
But Lottie couldn’t care less how crucial a CPAP is for a person’s sleep. She will stop at nothing to get the attention she wants and when she wants it. Then, when she gets caught, she maintains a look of innocence. The clip shows her sitting on top of the CPAP machine, with her eyes saying she meant no harm. She only wanted a little love.
Newsweek reached out to @emiannbrown via TikTok for additional comment.

Viewer Reactions
The TikTok video amassed nearly 750,000 views and 133,700 likes as of Friday. People were left in stitches over the cat’s determination to get attention.
“I always jokingly said I’d die for my cat. Then one night she turned off my CPAP and I realized I might actually die for my cat,” commented a viewer.
A second person wrote: “My cat would bite holes in my hose to get me up. It worked.” Others chimed in that it happened to them too and cost them a fortune.
Some owners said they needed to get new nightstands with an extra shelf to keep the CPAP machines out of a cat’s reach.
Another wrote: “She says, ‘Love me or die.'”
